Within a year, Ilona transitioned into a Staff Nurse, she gained valuable experience in patient care, management, and leadership.

Physical and mental wellness are at the heart of our approach to daily life at Glenaulin. Our award-winning Social and Recreational Programme is based on research – and our experience – that people are happiest when they are engaged and stimulated. There are a wealth of activities available to keep residents sharp and active, and foster their creativity and self-expression. Our personal activity coordinator also helps each resident develop a fulfilling and meaningful activities plan, based on their capabilities and interests.
All our residents are encouraged to stay as active as possible. Communal exercise sessions offer plenty of opportunities for fun and laughter, helping to build areal sense of belonging.
We understand how hard it is to make the decision to transition a loved family member or friend to a nursing home environment. We’ll do our best to make that choice as easy as possible.
We believe in building personal relationships with residents. We’ll take the time to get to know you and your loved one, and work together with you to come up with a care plan based on their individual needs.
We welcome open and honest communication with our residents’ family and friends. And as our residents’ circumstances change, we reassess their care plan and make it more relevant to their needs.
When I wake in the morning, I hear the chirpy sounds of the staff getting organised for the day ahead. Someone calls in to greet me a good morning and bring me my breakfast, where I choose to enjoy my first meal of the day while listening to the radio and catching up on the latest news.
Sometimes I will relax in my room for a while, maybe write to my friends and family, or do a bit of knitting or sewing. When I’m ready, I head for the sitting room to read the paper and catch up with my pals before lunch.
After lunch, if the weather is nice I often go for a walk in the garden where I just love to soak up the beautiful scenery. The trees and flowers bring me so much joy. There are lots of activities to get involved in to keep the afternoons busy. From pet therapy or arts & crafts, to bingo or exercise classes, there is always something fun to do.
The staff here are so friendly and cheerful and look after us all so well. I’m very happy in Glenaulin.
